Wakana Suzuki is an Affiliate Member of the Centre for Bionetworking and a PhD student at the graduate school of human science at Osaka University and research fellow of the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science. She holds a Masters and a Bachelor’s Degrees from Kyoto University. She studies Science and Technology Studies, Anthropology and Sociology and her area of research interest is stem cell research in Japan. Her previous research focused on hope and expectations shared by scientists, patients, governments and the media. Now Suzuki conducts fieldwork in a stem cell laboratory which aims at creating new medical treatment as translational research in Japan. Here she looks to further understand processes knowledge production in the lab, development and expansion of their project and collaborations between the lab and nearby hospitals from, both a micro and macro perspective.
